LEED 2009 Changes May Affect You

LEED 2009, launched last month, not only harmonizes credits between the various LEED rating systems, but it incorporates substantial changes from previous versions (LEED-NC 2.2, LEED-CS 2.0, etc). We would like to call your attention to these changes.

Timeline:
April 27: LEED 2009 launches
June 26: Last Day to register projects under current versions of LEED
June 27: New projects will be required to register for LEED 2009
Dec 31: Last day of free migration period, during which currently registered projects can transition to LEED 2009 and LEED Online v3 without paying a new registration fee

If you are considering pursuit of LEED certification for a current project, or one just starting, now may be the time to register. The deadline to register a project under the old systems is June 26, 2009. The nominal registration fee may be well worth the flexibility you gain to certify under the old system with an option to switch to the new LEED 2009 system.

What if your project is already registered? A LEED registered project under design or construction may continue to use the version of LEED under which it was originally registered. Projects registering under previous versions of the LEED rating systems will have the option to upgrade to a LEED 2009 rating system at any time. Registration fees for transitioning to LEED 2009 will be waived until December 31, 2009.

Structural Changes
More emphasis has been placed on development density, community connectivity, alternative transportation, energy performance, measurement & verification and on-site renewable energy.

In general, there is slightly less "low-hanging fruit", in keeping with the green building standards becoming more standard practice.

GGLO Top 25 in corporate giving

May 7, 2008 - GGLO received an award from the Puget Sound Business Journal in recognition of our corporate giving in 2008. We are honored to be ranked #10 of 25 businesses receiving recognition in PSBJ's "Corporate Philanthropist List" for small companies, which is ranked by total corporate and foundation giving in Washington State in 2008. Awards were announced at Puget Sound Business Journal’s Corporate Citizenship luncheon event at the Meydenbauer Center.

The awards recognize the top 75 corporate philanthropists in the region - 25 large businesses (revenue over $150 Million), 25 medium sized businesses (revenue $20 - 150 Million), and 25 small businesses (revenue under $20 Million). "Together, the top 76 corporate philanthropists (there was one tie on the list) gave more than $142 million in cash donations in the state in 2008."
