Annually, the FutureShack committee, a dedicated group of panelists, set aside expectations of traditional residential design and budgeting to award innovative design solutions aimed to improve and benefit ever-changing lifestyles.

This year, as part of The Next 50 celebration and 2012 Seattle Design Festival, FutureShack decided to explore "The Next 50 Years of Residential Design" as the overarching theme. Curating over a dozen projects from University of Washington students and licensed professionals in Seattle, this year’s celebration explores the built environment: what it may become and how it may change to benefit our lives.

On display is GGLO's Capitol Hill EcoDistrict study, completed in partnership with Capitol Hill Housing made possible by a generous Bullitt Foundation grant in early 2011.  An EcoDistrict is sustainability applied at the neighborhood scale to achieve advanced levels of environmental performance through behavior change, building design, and infrastructure investments.  Head to the exhibit to check out what the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict would look like through the eyes of Sarah, Carissa and Courtney, attendees of last night’s exhibit sneak preview event.
